Letter from Eric Schneiderman, NY Attorney General in response to the NYT's heartbreaking post on prescription drug abuse:

To break this cycle, my office developed the Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing Act, or I-STOP, which was signed into law last year. Unlike other prescription monitoring systems, I-STOP will soon require New York physicians to consult an electronic database of patient prescription histories before prescribing controlled substances like Adderall. When this system is fully implemented, doctor shopping can be detected early, and patients can get treatment for addiction before it’s too late.

Misses the point, no? Problems with Adderall, at least in my experience, do not stem from doctor shopping. Rather from doctors who overprescribe a drug without accurately evaluating patient need.
